Sod Installation — Jacksonville Beach, Neptune Beach & Atlantic Beach
The beaches have unique challenges that inland Jacksonville does not. Salt spray from the ocean stresses grass. The soil is almost pure sand with low nutrient retention. Wind exposure dries everything out faster. And the HOA probably has opinions about how your lawn looks.
For properties within a few blocks of the ocean, Zoysia (Icon) is the strongest choice. It handles salt, drought, and sandy soil better than any other variety we install. For properties further back — say west of Third Street — St. Augustine Floratam works well if you have irrigation.
We serve all three beach communities: Jacksonville Beach from Beach Boulevard south, Neptune Beach, and Atlantic Beach up to Mayport. We also cover Selva Marina, Sea Turtle Inn area, and the neighborhoods along Penman Road.
Beach properties need more soil amendment than inland yards. We typically add organic matter to the sand before laying sod to improve water retention. Without it, even with irrigation, the water runs right through and the roots never establish properly.
